Krystal is the daughter of a retired Army pilot and has spent her entire life in and around the military. She earned a business degree from Nichols College in 2005, and her law degree from Rogers Williams Law School in 2008. Krystal became an Alabama state attorney in 2009 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps in 2009 and graduated with honors from the Naval Justice School in 2011. She served on active duty in the Marine Corps as a military lawyer until 2016. In 2017 she earned her LL.M. (Master in Law) in Litigation and Dispute Resolution from The George Washington University Law School. Krystal's entire legal career has been spent in the courtroom. Before joining the Marine Corps, Krystal worked at the U.S. Attorney's office in Huntsville, Alabama. As a military attorney, she has significant experience as both a prosecutor and defense counsel. Krystal served as a prosecutor at both Marine Corps Air Station Miramar and Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, and was appointed as the Officer-in-Charge of the Legal Services Support Detachment, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego. Krystal also served as a defense counsel at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, and was appointed as the Senior Defense for the Legal Services Support Team Miramar. As the Senior Defense Counsel, Krystal led a team of 7 Marine Corps defense counsel and was responsible for overseeing all defense services for Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, and Marine Corps Air Station Yuma. In 2016, Krystal founded Krystal R. Capasso Law, a firm which focuses on criminal and administrative law for members of the armed forces.
