Harold Leo Emelander was raised in Newaygo, Michigan. After graduating from Newaygo High School, he attended Grand Valley State University where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Spanish. He then went on to receive his Juris Doctorate from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 2006. To further his education he then moved to Florida where he attended The University of Florida College of Law and received his LLM in Taxation in 2007. Mr. Emelander began his legal career in Miami, Florida at an accounting firm. He utilized his degree in taxation law by advising clients on individual, corporate, partnership, estate and trust tax planning matters. He further assisted with the firm's practice areas of forensic accounting and complex divorce litigation support. In 2010, Mr. Emelander joined a prominent civil litigation defense firm in Miami, Florida. He represented corporations, individuals and insurance companies across the state of Florida in civil litigation. He gained significant experience in the areas of general liability defense, personal injury, product liability litigation, business litigation, consumer litigation, wrongful death litigation, premise liability litigation, employment litigation, contractual disputes and trade secret litigation. Mr. Emelander actively participated in every stage of the litigation including pretrial proceeding, discovery motion practice, mediation and trial. In January 2014, Mr. Emelander relocated to Newaygo, Michigan to open his independent law practice, Emelander Law Firm, P.C. His current wife and legal partner, Erin L. Emelander (a former prosecutor) joined his firm in September of 2015, and together they work tirelessly to zealously represent and advocate for the rights of individuals and business in Michigan.
